In 2000, community organizers in Tempe started Tempe Empty Bowls, part of a national effort to provide support for organizations that fight hunger. The Tempe annual event raises funds for the Tempe Community Action Agency and United Food Bank, and has raised more than $220,000 for the cause. teamworks joined the committee in 2013, managing the publicity pro bono.
Highlights
- In our first year supporting Tempe Empty Bowls, stories appeared in The Tempe Republic, East Valley Tribune, Ahwatukee Foothills News, as well as on several local food and community blogs and websites. The event also was featured on ABC-15 News.
- Added emphasis was placed on social media efforts for the 2014 event, along with traditional media, resulting in a great placement in the Southeast Valley Arizona Republic, significantly increased traffic to the event’s Facebook page, and a 35 percent increase in funds raised over 2013.
- In 2018, the organization partnered with As You Wish Pottery, bringing a huge increase in social media followers. We also secured a segment on FOX10 TV during the pottery-making weekend in January, with the segment resulting in a sell-out of that bowl-making event.
